Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Wengtan, Dahu, Lianping, Guangdong. It was named by Xu Souyong et al. in 1979.


Lithology and Thickness

Sandstone. Varicolored sandstone, pebbled sandstone and shale, intercalated with calcareous siltstone, locally with carbonaceous shale and thin beds of marl, reaching 200 m in thickness. It is stable in lithology, but varies slightly in thickness, the maximum reaching 354 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Disconformable contact with the underlying Devonian Shuangtou Group (but Devonian Songyuan Gr is indicated on Hongfei Hou's revised chart for the Guangdong-Fujian border region) in areas east of Longchuan−Zijin; and a conformable or disconformable contact in other areas

Upper contact

Conformable contact with the overlying Zhongxin Fm

Fossils

Brachiopods Cyrtospirifer sp., Camarotoechia sp. and Squamularia sp.; Plants Lepidodendropsis sp., Sublepidodendron sp. and Archaeocalamites sp. as well as bivalves, gastropods, ostracods, etc.
